Mortgages on homes increased by 9.7% in 2017, to its highest figure since 2011

With this increase in 2017, the mortgages firm on housing chains its fourth consecutive annual increase after seven years of falls. However, the growth of 2017 has moderated with respect to the two previous years and has fallen by two digits.

Since 2007, the signature of mortgages on housing had been falling, most of them double digits. In particular, in 2013 they fell by 27.1%, while in 2012, 2011 and 2008 they fell by more than 32%. In 2009 they decreased 22.2%, while in 2010 and 2007 the falls were more moderate, of 6.6% and 7.7%, respectively.

In 2014, this trend finally broke and mortgages on homes grew by 2.3%. The following year, in 2015, mortgages on housing rose by 20.8%, and in 2016, by 14.6%.

The average amount of mortgages on homes rose 6.3% in 2017, to 116,709 euros, while borrowed capital rose 16.6% over the year as a whole, to 36,191 million euros.

By Autonomous Communities, those that registered a greater number of mortgages constituted on housing in 2017 were Andalusia (60,240), Madrid (56,644) and Catalonia (49,918).

All the autonomous communities increased the signature of mortgages on housing last year. The biggest increases corresponded to La Rioja (+ 18.4%), Madrid (+ 16.6%) and Asturias (+ 12.4%) and minors to Aragón (+ 0.5%), Navarra (+0, 7%) and Extremadura (+ 2%).
